This is one of best-selling author J.C.Lincoln's Cape Cod stories. Set during WW1, it's a treat to see honesty and loyalty, admired with humor and sense. Pity is the kind of love that is often condescending, but if Shavings is pitiful, he is also so honest that his pity for anyone is wise.
The story was well-developed, and the characters were wonderful. I had a hard time putting it down, once started. There were funny areas, tearful times, but overall, the book was well worth the read. I'd recommend it to others. The main character has so much to give, and gives to so many, that how he changed as the story progressed, was beautifully recognized. Great dialogue and hard to put down.
Again Joseph Lincoln brings his Cape Cod characters to life. Although somewhat predictable, he weaves his spell and the people of Cape Cod go about their daily lives and charm us all.
